Weekly Workshops

"When I don't write, I feel my world shrink. I lose my fire, my color." - Anais Nin

Poetry, Perception and Play with Dawn
6 Wednesday evenings, March 10 - April 14, 2010

6:30pm-9:00pm, NE Portland, $120

"I think what we lack isn’t science but poetry that reveals what the heart is ready to recognize."
- Joseph Campbell

Poetry reminds us to feel. It whispers to us to stand still in front of the tree we pass every day and reclaim our capacity for awe. It journeys us deep so that we know ourselves better, and it profoundly connects us with the simple beauties, the ordinary moments. It calls us to be fully present, fully alive. Poetry heals. This is a workshop for those who have written poems and for those who have never dared. During our 6 weeks we'll play with the basic good ingredients of all poetry - simile, metaphor, imagery, compression, lines and stanzas and rhythm. We'll experiment freely, using words as clay to sculpt what was not visible before, to capture the essence of a moment, a place, a knowing.

Together, we'll practice developing poetic perception, which will deepen our lives and bring color and vibrancy to all of our writing.

All levels of writing experience welcome. To register, contact Dawn: dawn@pdxwomenwriters.com

All I am is the trick of words writing themselves."

Our words, our truth, our imagining, our dreaming, may be the best gifts we have to give.
Pat Schneider
You have stories inside of you. Maybe some rants, poems, manifestoes, and novels too. So what keeps you from writing? Your hectic schedule, an uncertain world, or those bothersome personal fears may tell you to just forget about it. It's not worth it. Just ignore the tug of memory, the pull of your imagination. But maybe the story is what really matters. Maybe it's time to commit to the dance. In these weekly writing sessions, take that step and commit to listening to the writer within you. Each week, we will gather together to write, share, and respond to the writing we create together. The exercises and writing prompts are designed to guide you to your own authentic voice. The safe space we create encourages you to take risks, going where your writing has never gone before. Whether you are seasoned or new to the writer's journey, there's no better time than now to recharge and enliven your creativity.  Contact Rhea: rhea@pdxwomenwriters.com, 503-234-8996
Sacred Story Writing with Dawn
6 Wednesday evenings, April 21 - May 26
7:00-9:00pm at
Multnomah Village Garden Sanctuary, $130.00

"...this was a fantastically rewarding workshop where I was prompted to spill my 'story' in parts and parcels, and then guided to create the opening for my next best life."

"Sacred Story workshops helped guide me toward releasing old, ineffective story lines and invited in new, age-appropriate ones. Writing and reading our creative works - and hearing others - is empowering."
-Sacred Story workshop participants

You have a sacred story. The sacred story of your life is one of a kind. There has not been one exactly like it in all of human history. You are its author, constantly writing its unfolding. However, sometimes the stories we tell ourselves keep us from happiness and from realizing our full potential. Sometimes we get stuck in old stories that no longer fit who are are. Is there a story you are telling yourself that is keeping you from moving forward in your life? What are you ready to release in order to create space for who you are becoming? In this five-week workshop, we'll use visualization and writing to become aware of the limiting stories we are telling ourselves about who we are and what we're capable of. Once we identify these limiting stories we can upgrade them! We can write new stories. Becoming conscious authors of our stories is one of the most empowering acts we can perform, both for our own healing and wholeness and for the well being of our collective community.

All levels of writing experience welcome.
